Fidel Rincon Marin-Lara

Translation  :  Daniel Serrano

I'll start saying that I was born in 19th august in 1962. I started in the hobby in early ages because I lived with my grandparents and my grandfather was a fan of building wood kits of ships so I spent a lot of time wathing him. Finally it was my father who got me into the hobby because he bought me airplane kits (Frog, Airfix and those bags of figures, tanks and planes from Monta Plex).

At the beginning I just built them without painting but lately I met a friend of mine (Alfonso Cuadrado) and he taught me to paint with ennamels.

The figures were just mere complements for the final view of my works and I started to feel that I needed to improve the painting of those figures as I wanted to improve the quality of my scale models.

But i was being cautivated by the figures to the point of spend my time exclusively painting them. One good day a friend came to my house and when He saw my planes and figures he thought they were so good he wanted me to meet Javier Barrientos, who taught me the painting with acrylics and gave me my first commissions. That's when it started my professional career as figure painter, in 1994.

The beginning was hard because it's though to earn enought to eat, days of 12 hours of painting, 7 days a week... I wouldn't have resisted this situation withouth the inconditional support of my wife, Mar, and my fanatic love for miniatures.

Some time later I started to colaborate with Andrea Miniatures (i want to greet Fernando Andrea "San", the one who taught me better about what is a figure and probably one of the best modelers in history but sadly not very much known because he works in the shadow and he doesn't like to be famous. Thanks San) where I became the official painter for the brand for about 4 years. After that time I decide to leave Andrea and start on my own.

I assisted to international shows like Folkestone, Paris, Sevres... getting some awards. I also write articles for great magazines like EuroModelismo and EuroFigures, Figurines and Military Modelling, where I have some covers. I've been jury in some shows like World Expo in Paris, Val de Aosta and Fuengirola, this one is in Holy Week and is organized by some of my closest friends like José Francisco “Kiko” owner of the best specialized shop in the south of Spain, Raúl García Latorre and many other friends.

I paint basically with acrylics, with highlights and shadows, like the most part of the spanish painters, and using the zenital light technique. I use a 100w white light bulb, Davinci brushes #1 and #2, thanks to my friens Jaime Cadavieco, another spanish-french painter.

I use to work listening to the radio and music sometimes. My favourite subject is World War II but due to my job I've painted napoleonics, medieval...

My favourite scale is 70mm without a doubt because it's not so small as a 54mm and not so big as a 90mm and it can reach great details.

My favourite painters and the ones who have been a great influence for me are: Rodrigo Hernández Chacón, Raúl García Latorre (the most complete because he sculpts great and he's helped me a lot at the beginning as independent painter), I also appreciate the works of Luis Gómez Platón with who I share some kind of style points, of course David Romero who's a friend too and he's the head of the new blood as the Gros Mascarilla brothers, I want to mention too Gamarra for his great work and for being the first spanish painter who showed the spanish art in european and norhtamerican shows. I don't want to forget to mention Gallardo who's a great painter and a very active person in this our world.

Talking about sculptors, Raul, Fernando Andrea, and foreigners as Stefano Cannone, Adriano Laruccia and the elegant Bruno Leivobitz.

I want to say sorry to all of those I didn't mention because the lack of time and space because the list would be endless.

Lately i'm startint to focus on civil miniatures like cars and motorbikes because the need of having a hobby different from painting figures because that's my real job.

I want to say that I accept commissions for every kind of scales in figures and kits (contact phone  91 6126395, from 9:00 to 16:00).

Finally, I want to greet Pablo Roig and Luis Gómez Platón for giving me the opportunity to be in this webpages.

Regards,

Fidel
